Biography

Teresa McCallum

Teresa was born and raised on the BC coast and lives in Calgary, Alberta with her husband. She has three adult children living in Calgary. She worked for 40 years in mental health and loves working with vulnerable populations. Teresa has always been  involved in art and writing; she has done numerous commercial art assignments and dabbled in various mediums over the years.

She was inspired to return to her artwork after watching her children develop their artistic potential. Teresa’s business minded husband is very involved and supportive of her craft.

Pen and ink were her main interests until she took a course in acrylics and her passion blossomed. She created embroidery designs in the 70’s and early 80’s;  that style can be seen in her  lively colourful acrylics and mixed media creations. Teresa appreciates  brush strokes and she experiments with various brush techniques to add texture and depth to her paintings.

Teresa has studied the work of numerous artists and especially loves the work of Vincent Van Gogh. Teresa not only enjoys creating art; she and her husband enjoy collecting the artwork of talented Calgary and Vancouver artists. Teresa takes courses continuously and plans to keep learning to hone her skills. Teresa appreciates many kinds of artwork but is especially enamoured by bright, bold colours and lines; there is a whimsical, youthfulness to her creative expression.

Teresa’s works are based on reality, but usually have an extra zing of colour or emboldened  lines. She loves working on contemporary florals, trees and landscapes and is especially enamoured with painting large abstracts, often depicting chaotic weather events. Recently, Teresa has been exploring mixed media and she hand paints papers, turning them into unique pieces. She is inspired by her love of the outdoors and long walks with her dog, Murphy (who followed in Jasmine and Luna’s footsteps).
